Horoscope

July 4th, 2008

Random House Unabridged Dictionary defines Horoscope as a diagram of heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac, for use in calculating births, foretelling events in a person’s life etc. The dictionary further defines Horoscope as a prediction of future events or advice for future behavior based on such a diagram. American Heritage Dictionary defines Horoscope as an astrological forecast, as of a person’s future, based on a diagram of the aspect of the planets and stars at a given moment. The term Horoscope is derived from a Greek name meaning “a look at the hours. Horoscope is also called as astrological chart, birth chart, astro-chart, celestial map, sky-map, star-chart, cosmogram, vitasphere, radical chart, radix, or simply chart. Horoscope forms the basis of horoscope traditions of astrology. In layman’s terminology, horoscope means an astrologer’s interpretations of the chart through a system known as sun sign astrology. Now-a-days, many news papers and magazines carry daily horoscopes depending on the zodiac signs. It is becoming increasingly popular among the masses as it provides them some insights into their lives and they can take a peek into their immediate future. But most astrologers regard these as worthless as horoscopes are highly personalized and their interpretations cannot be generalized to thousands of readers just through one planetary placement.

Astrology Sign Compatibility

May 30th, 2008

Though online dating presents a thrill, it’s a situation akin to this one where the two people involved hardly know each other. Some people worry about trusting a person they’ve not met. Some others may feel a relationship is going places but don’t want to risk irking their partners by asking for more information. Does this sound like your situation? Well, if you believe in astrology and star signs, your life just got simpler! All you need is the person’s birth date (you can hardly raise any suspicions by asking for it), and the rest is easy!

Just like the hundreds of dating sites online, there are a huge number of online astrology sites as well. While most of these sites are free, a few charge for personalized astrological compatibility readings. You can decide whether you want to pay or manage with the free readings based on how serious your relationship is. But as with online dating websites, not all of these can be trusted. So tread carefully.

The signs of 12 Zodiac

July 24th, 2007

Each of the 12 Signs of the Zodiac represents specific energy patterns, or modes of expression. They act as modifiers of the elements with which they are associated, be it a Planet or a House. Let us first look at the basic energy of each of the Astrological Signs, and then we will begin to get a sense of their modes of expression by examining the way in which each sign modifies an Astrological House.

ARIES is fiery self-will in action; pioneering energy; new growth seeking to emerge. The house where your Aries rules is where you will be challenged to grow and learn; where new things will keep emerging. Here you throw yourself into physical activity.

TAURUS is deliberation and determination seeking practical productivity in this world. The house where your Taurus rules is where you will be challenged to be practical and productive. You hang on to the things of this house for security.

GEMINI is abstract curiosity seeking to form a picture of the world, and to communicate those perceptions to others. The house where your Gemini rules is where you will be challenged to learn by following your curiosity; where communication will be important;, and where you will be able to see both sides of an issue.

CANCER is healing, nurturing, sensitivity seeking psychological understanding, emotional self-expression, and the capacity to heal others. The house where your Cancer rules is where you will be challenged to create a “safe place” in which to grow emotionally. Here you have deep feelings, and tend to be super-sensitive and defensive.

LEO is self-expression seeking confidence, ease, and honor in the social world. The house where your Leo rules is where you will be challenged to “shine”; to apply the positive, creative qualities of your sun sign, and find a sense of inner peace.

VIRGO is analysis, refinement, and discrimination seeking perfection and purification of the self. This is the sign of the craftsman. The house where your Virgo rules is where you will be challenged to analyze your feelings in a practical, unemotional way. Here is where you can serve others in a quiet, unassuming way.

LIBRA is balance, harmony, and love of beauty seeking self-completion. The house where your Libra rules is where you will be challenged to find balance. Here your ability to see both sides of any issue can lead to difficulty making choices.

SCORPIO is intense emotional power probing and penetrating into the unconscious; seeking the power of transformation at work in ordinary reality; seeking to accept all that is frightening or overwhelming. The house where your Scorpio rules is where you will be challenged to completely transform your life. You seek control in this part of your life and can be manipulative and secretive.

SAGITTARIUS is an expansion quest to discover truth and the interconnectedness of all things. The house where your Sagittarius rules is where you will be challenged to to expand your experiences. You are philosophical about the affairs of this house, and generous with its gifts.

CAPRICORN is self-discipline and austerity seeking integrity and moral courage. The house where your Capricorn rules is where you will be challenged to win respect and recognition from others. You tend to combine traditional and original approaches to the affairs of this house, or to feel the frustration of being torn between the two.

AQUARIUS is eccentricity and radical individuality seeking freedom of the soul and communication with the group mind. The house where your Aquarius rules is where you will be challenged to seek new knowledge in order to break down old ideas. Here you are very much ahead of your time.

PISCES is mystical dreaminess, warmth, and healing compassion seeking self-transcendence. The house where your Pisces rules is where you will be challenged to discern between illumination and illusion. Here is a doorway, either to higher spiritual knowledge or to escape through day-dreaming or self-indulgence. It’s difficult to learn to trust and follow your intuition, and you will feel as if you are acting blindly.

OBEYING SIGNS - LIBRA, SCORPIO, SAGITTARIUS, CAPRICORN, AQUARIUS, PISCES.

July 24th, 2007

OPPOSITION - An Opposition or Diametrall Radiation is, when two Planets are equally distant 180 degrees, or half the Circle from each other. Signs Opposite to one another are:

  • Aries <> Libra
  • Gemini <> Sagittarius
  • Leo <> Aquarius
  • Taurus <> Scorpio
  • Cancer <> Capricorn
  • Virgo <> Pisces

ORIENTAL - [ORIENTAL, OCCIDENTAL.] Saturn, Jupiter and Mars, are Oriental of the Sun, from the time of their conjunction with him, until they come to his Opposition: from whence until again they come to conjunction, they are said to be Occidental; to be Oriental is no other thing then to rise before the Sun: to be Occidental is to be seen above the Horizon, or to set after the Sun is down: Mercury and Venus can make no Sextile , Square, Trine or Opposition to the Sun: their Orientality is when they are in fewer degrees of the Sign the Sun is, or in the Sign preceding; their Occidentality, when they are in more degrees of the Sign the Sun is in , or next subsequent: for you must know Mercury cannot be more degrees removed from the Sun then 28. nor Venus more then 48. though some allow a few more. The Moon is Oriental of the Sun from the time of her opposition to he conjunction, and Occidental from the time of her Conjunction to Opposition; and the reason hereof is, because she far exceeds the Sun in swiftness of motion, and so presently gets further into the Sign, &c.

PARTILE ASPECTS - Partile aspect is when two Planets are exactly so many degrees from each other as make a perfect aspect: as if Mercury be in nine degrees of Aries, and Jupiter in nine degrees of Leo, this is a Partile Trine aspect: So Sun in one degree of Taurus, and Moon in one degree of Cancer, make a Partile Sextile, and this is a strong sign or argument for performance of anything, or that the matter is near hand concluded when the aspect is so partile, and signifies good; and it’s as much a sign of present evil when mischief is threatened.

PEREGRINE - A Planet is then said to be Peregrine, when he is in the degrees of any Sign wherein he has no essential dignity: As Saturn in the tenth degree of Aries, that Sign being not his House, Exaltation, or of his Triplicity, or he having in that degree either Term or Faces, he is then said to be Peregrine; had he been in 27, 28 &c. of Aries, he could not be termed Peregrine, because then he is in his own Term. So the Sun in any part of Cancer is Peregrine, having no manner of dignity in that Sign. This is very much material in all Questions, to know the Peregrine Planet, especially in questions of Theft; for ever almost the significator of the Thief is known by the Peregrine Planet posited in an Angle, or the second House.

PLANETS - Saturn , Jupiter , Mars , Sol (Sun) , Venus , Mercury , Luna (Moon).

SEXTILE - When two Planets are equally distant one from each other, 60 degrees, we say they are in sextile Aspect. A Sextile aspect is the distance of one Planet from another by the sixth part of the Zodiac or Circle; for six times sixty degree. do make 360. degree. this aspect you shall find called sometimes a Sexangular aspect, or an Hexagon.

STATIONARY - When he moves not at all, as the superiors do not 2, 3, or 4 days before Retrogradation.

SUPERIOR and INFERIOR PLANETS Saturn, Jupiter and Mars being placed above the Orb of the Sun, are called the superior, ponderous and more weighty Planets. Venus, Mercury and Luna are called the inferior Planets, being under the Orb of the Sun.

Traditional and classical astrology

OPPOSITION - An Opposition or Diametrall Radiation is, when two Planets are equally distant 180 degrees, or half the Circle from each other. Signs Opposite to one another are:

* Aries <> Libra
* Gemini <> Sagittarius
* Leo <> Aquarius
* Taurus <> Scorpio
* Cancer <> Capricorn

PLACTIC - A Platick Aspect is that which admits of the Orbs or Rays of two Planets that signify any matter: As if Venus be in the tenth degree of Taurus, and Saturn in eighteen degrees of Virgo, here Venus has a Platick Trine, or is in a Platick Trine of Saturn, because she is within the Moiety of both their Orbs; for the Moiety of Saturn his Rays or Orbs is five, and of Venus 4, and the distance betwixt them and their perfect aspect is eight degrees.

QUADRANTS - The whole sphere of Heaven is divided into four equal parts by the Meridian and Horizon, and again into four quadrants, and every Quadrant again into three parts, according to other Circles drawn by points of Sections of the aforesaid Meridian and Horizon; so the whole Heaven is divided into twelve equal parts, which the Astrologers call Houses or Mansions, taking their beginning from the East.

SEPARATION - Separation, it is, in the first place, when two Planets are departed but six minutes distance from each other, as let Saturn be in 10 degree. and 25 min. of Aries and Jupiter in 10 degree. and 25 min. of Aries: now in these degrees and minutes they are in perfect Conjunction; but when Jupiter shall get into 10 degree. and 31 or 32 minutes of Aries, he shall be said to be separating from Saturn

SQUARE - When two Planets are 90 degrees distant one from another, we call that Aspect a Quartile (SQUARE) Aspect.

STATIONARY - When he moves not at all, as the superiors do not 2, 3, or 4 days before Retrogradation.

SIGNS - There be also twelve Signs: Aries , Taurus , Gemini , Cancer , Leo , Virgo , Libra , Scorpio , Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius , Pisces.

It may lack a few of information, I will gather more.

Astrology - A Breakthrough Option for Management Science

July 20th, 2007

In organizational learning, innovation is a prime demand. People are told to think-out-of-the-box all the time but continue to work within known, comfortable parameters. This article welcomes you to extreme science, taking you literally from out-of-the-box to out-of-this-world.

There will always be options. So why do people cling on to methodologies that have proven to be unsuccessful or costs too much to implement successfully? What is this thing about being scientific? Why do failures continue to persist if everything was a science and all procedures replicable? Based on experience, science is as much a belief system as everything else. Astrology is therefore as scientific as you want it to be, or not. The argument itself will never be as important as the impact it can produce in terms of results for success. If you’re running a serious business, you want to consider all possible options in your honest drive towards business success.

In this article, we’re not dealing with the scientific aspect of astrology or not, but we’re going to deal with a very important issue in modern business management: why the people who manage businesses risk are not really thinking out of the box to try new models that might produce better business results? And we’ll talk about how you can liberate yourself from that limitation.

After almost two decades as senior principal consultant in a consulting firm, advising organizations on troubleshooting and workforce renewal, I find management science presumptuous. There are so many variables that need to be considered; the obvious as well as the not so obvious. Unfortunately, the latter is sadly untouched due to an obsession with objective procedures. Everybody appears to be of the opinion that only objective procedures are capable of delivering. This alone is a major setback in effective goal setting and achievement.

One of the most powerful buzzwords today is innovation. This is where everyone is urged to innovate their existing ways, products and services to go beyond the norms to achieve unprecedented results. I am amused at how most business managers or owners appear to think out of the box, only to get into another bigger box. People continue to swim in semantics and concepts, still caught within their own acceptances and beliefs. If they knew what it meant to use a model that reached deep into the blueprint behind their reality, they’d know what it’s like to deal with causal systems. Astrology offers that. But most people at the helm were not ready for turnaround success largely due to self-protectionism.

Today, when I use astrology for dire entrepreneurs, I do the following:

1. I determine the essential owners and major contributors 2. I ask how happy they are with their current ways 3. I ask how serious they are about achieving their business goals 4. I ask what risks and sacrifices they’d take to achieve their goals 5. I propose a success strategy to arrive at specific goals using astrology 6. I ask for specific terms of commitment they can offer 7. I demand specific terms of empowerment to help them make things happen 8. I offer a guarantee commensurate with their commitment 9. I offer total confidentiality due to the nature of the work

Contrary to popular belief, astrological application, executed by an astute and responsible astrologer, offers a lot of options. The idea is to weave astrology into the volatile decision-making of the organization. It is not like astrology makes its own decisions, and the organization has to have it written in stone as a policy. As in Muhurtha or Electional Astrology, where the system suggests optimum windows for auspicities in time and space to undertake specific types of events for best results, there are options to fit with the spiritual movements of the querist, individual, or even business entity. Due to their lack of understanding astrology’s role, people tend to reject one of the most powerful decision-making tools ever devised by ancient technology.

The following would be the essence of what I would have to say to the would-be user of astrology in business success:

1. New ways, new results With astrology, you can only win. If something has not been working for you, and you’re still waiting for new results when you’re doing things the same old way, then you should review your strategy. You have absolutely nothing to lose by taking a new path, because each one is a learning journey. You can still go on with other models subsequently. Become a learning individual by moving on. Try some models that might work for you, individually.

2. Astrology is individualistic Business management models are most times generic, requiring you to plug your business into a pre-structured template. By astrology, this is unacceptable. Even by intelligence alone, we realize that there will be numerous variables that need customized consideration that must be factored in. Astrology begins with this as a fundamental and basic premise, not as a subsequent requirement. It is individualistic from the beginning; which is why it has stringent requirements.

3. Astrology has proven itself to the diligent Many management techniques work for some people, but not for all the people all the time. In some cases, it even cost the company millions just to try it out, and they could just shake their heads and just try some new model a few months down the road. Why not put astrology on the list of models to try? After all, it’s been around for four thousand years, and cultures across the globe have used it. Even governments are using it. Wall Street tycoons are using it. Even if it doesn’t work for you, it won’t cost you the millions modern systems would.

4. You have no risk to use astrology in your business If you own your own business, you owe it to yourself to undertake every measure that avails itself to you to make your business a success. If you’ve tried everything you could lay your hands on, then lay aside the belief complex. If it doesn’t work, then just like what many people have done with other models, just put it aside. Using astrology for yourself can be so affordable, you would be a fool not to consider it.

The following are ways to use astrology gently for better enterprise, without need to believe in it:

1. Study it at a personal level first. Learn the fundamentals, and go for the killer techniques that will reveal the validity of astrology. Convince yourself that there could be something here. Give it time, like you did with other models. When you begin to see the parts that work, then you might want to apply your skill to your company needs. This is the cheapest entry level.

2. Get someone you can trust to do an astrological job for your company or business. Same thing again. Convince yourself that there could be something here. Give it time, like you would with other models. When you begin to see the parts that work, then you might want to get on with the deeper, more intricate modules of its business application. This is still cheaper than if you were to use other conventional services for your corporate decision-making or troubleshooting.

If you can work with someone to show you the ropes of sound astrology, you’d be happy to know that it’s something you can do for yourself. The astrological work that I’ve done for organizations are only because the owners can’t find it in themselves to work things out for themselves, nor can they delegate it to anyone else. With good astrology, studying its relevance in your personal readings alone, is already a good connection to the implications of your business potential and success. And more, you can even do an astrological study for your business and obtain a revealing profile of its own potential success. I retrain top leaders on many business tactics and models; and I can tell you that studying astrology for better business is many times more worth the study; and it’s even simpler, too. If I can teach my students to make astrological predictions in two days, you can learn it, too.

Many corporate friends have eventually started learning astrology not only for their own use, but also to apply it in their corporate decisions. Many were skeptical, but after some of my free lessons, had become so sure of their analysis they sound as if they’ve been doing it for years. They’re definitely more scientific in their attitudes now and certainly more serious with their businesses.

Do Planets Communicate with Living Organisms?

July 20th, 2007

Do you feel any difference if the moon if full? A lot of people, including myself, report that their sleep is different and even during the day they feel a shift in their mood that lasts sometimes a few days.

The moon is responsible for making the tides and has therefore a physical influence on the earth. But what about the other 9 major planets?

Astrology is based on the belief that time has quality. Important here is to mention that astrology does not say the planets are making the qualities or energy patterns. The planets are an indicator of these qualities and if you are familiar with these qualities you can see them manifesting in your daily life.

Our world and our beliefs are still so much indoctrinated by the old paradigm that everything is mechanical - including the human nature. This old belief will soon be replaced by new beliefs and new concepts. Quantum physics is already making such a big shift in our view of the word that soon the public will realize that our mechanical concepts of the world needs to be replaced in order to integrate new findings and experiments.

What we will learn sooner or later is that information takes no time at all to get from one place to another and therefore we can not even say anymore that information is traveling. On a quantum level information could be a singularity, meaning that everything is happening at the same time everywhere.

Does Life has Principles? A study done by a swiss scientist some 50 years ago revealed the principles of life itself. These principles are manifesting themselves in every living form as well as in any other material way.

The amazing result of his study shows the outcome of nearly 10 principles that are almost identical with the qualities of the planets. I like to mention that this study was not influenced in any way by astrology facts.

Each planet is associated with a different energy pattern. The names vary slightly as each astrologer interprets them differently. But overall they represent the same energy pattern. The difference is simply caused by the language. When I mention the color red we all agree on it but there are hundreds of variations.

What are these 10 Qualities?

Moon - Feeling Sun - Identity Mercury - Thinking Venus - Harmony Mars - Energy Jupiter - Expansion Saturn - Integration Uranus - Transition Neptune - Mystery Pluto - Metamorphosis

A Short Explanation of these Qualities:

Feeling - Our emotions and our senses. There are days you may more sensitive for light or sound than others.

Sun - What we identify with, our live force.

Mercury - Our capacity to understand, logic, language, talking.

Venus - Harmony means to reach an optimum, a balance.

Mars - Power, the strength to initiate or do something.

Jupiter - Exploring new areas in your life, growing.

Saturn - Learning something new about yourself.

Uranus - Shifting your work area or your life purpose.

Neptune - Quantum physics, beyond what you see and understand.

Pluto - Transformation, changing your way of life.

The names of these qualities are adapted and modified from Thomas Ring, one of the most popular German astrologers. He lived from 1892 until 1983 and Astrodienst Zurich has dedicated a special website for him.

Also there are some other planets like Chiron, but I’d like to concentrate on the major 10 planets. And for all scientist I want to add that the moon of course is a trabant and the sun is a star, but in astrology terms they are planets as well.

What can we do with these 10 Energy Patterns? We can create a chart from our birthday and see our unique energy pattern in it. Go to a good astrologer and you will be amazed on how precisely your birth chart represents your unique abilities and talents.

Now here comes the interesting part. As we know how the planets are moving we can look up the planet positions on a ephemerids. The ephemerids is telling us where the position of a planet is at a certain time. We combine these positions with our birth chart and what we get is a unique energy pattern for each day. We can even look up planet data in the future and can therefore find energy patterns in the future.

The combination of your energy patterns from your birth chart with the energy patterns of the daily planets is called transits. These calculations have been done for thousands of years. But today we have fast and inexpensive computers and calculations can be done in a fraction of a second.

What you will get from this calculation is a long list of relationships between the position of your planets from your birth chart and the position of the planets from a certain day.

The results of this calculation can be shown as a graphic with two circles. The inner circle shows your birth chart and the outer circle the chart from a certain day. Between these two circles you than see lines, which are representing the transits. For someone who understands astrology this graphic is meaningfully - for the rest of us it is meaningless.

How would it look like if we take one quality from our birth chart and combine it with the 10 qualities from a certain date? It would show us all the influences at once. For example I can see my energy (Mars) pattern and therefore may or may not base my decisions. If my energy pattern shows expanding (Jupiter) or shows energy (Mars) as well I know that this would be a good time for actions and starting new projects.

If you pay attention to your feelings and your daily qualities (transits) you may automatically adapt your work or life flow accordingly and you will find yourself having to deal with less resistance.

I am currently working on an application for the Internet, which will be available for free in a few weeks. With this application you will be able to calculate the positions of your planets at your birth time and watch a graphical radar chart of your current transits.

Who Are the Key Players in Astrology?

July 20th, 2007

Astrology has evolved over the many centuries of its existence from a fatalistic, even superstitious ritual meant for “kings” and “rulers” to a viable “art form” incorporating changes through the centuries in the development of our understanding about human nature.

Let’s take a brief but loving journey through the history of astrology and look at some of the key players in the development of the field. After all, you have to know your players!

Astrology as we know it came into being in ancient Chaldea/Bablyon (roughly modern Iraq) around 1645 BC with the first “horoscope” dating around 410 BC. “Astrology as we know it” means the procedure of consulting the stars to pick favorable times for doing things, answering questions, forecasting mundane events and analyzing individual destiny by a horoscope. Interestingly, the Rising Sign was first used for predictions, though sometimes the Sun, Moon or Part of Fortune was used as well.

Ptolemy Astrological progress was also made in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Ptolemy (85-165 CE) in Greece was perhaps our first famous unique astrologer and of course he is known for many other things as well.

Copernicus and Galileo Skipping ahead through the Dark Ages in Europe, there were two famous men who emerged during the Renaissance who practiced astrology, Copernicus (1473-1543) and Galileo (1564-1642). Both these men are famous in the scientific field, but at one time there was a comfortable and natural association between astronomy and astrology, the exoteric and the esoteric of the stars, if you will. In 1524 the credibility of astrology was severely and permanently affected when predictions about the “great conjunction” that year failed to come true.

Oddly, the resurgence of interest in astrology today can be dated to the birth of England’s Princess Margaret in 1930. That year the “London Sunday Express” ran an astrological profile of the princess that was so popular, it peaked a general interest in astrology and from this developed your newspaper’s “daily horoscope”, not that daily horoscopes have much to recommend them.

This is a beautiful little bit of circular history (the more things change, the more they stay the same) because originally astrology was used only for royals. Others like serfs, slaves and peasants did not have much to their “fate” other than a life that was “nasty, brutish and short”. But the fate of a nation hung on the destiny of its ruler and his or her horoscope was a critical interest to all.

Evangeline Adams The first astrologer of modern interest is the very interesting indeed Evangeline Adams (1868?-1933). Adams, who lied about her birth date, was considered the “Mother of Modern Astrology”. She was a colorful figure who practiced in New York City during the first half of the 20th century. Adams became famous because she predicted a hotel would catch fire. When she was put on trial, she insisted that astrology itself be put on trial. Astrology won! Adams asked for the horoscope of the judge’s son and told him things about his own son that convinced him of the veracity of this field. Adams’ life is fascinating and there are many biographies, anecdotes and discussions about her in magazines like “The Mountain Astrologer” and online. Among her clients are reputed to have been John Pierpont Morgan and Enrico Caruso.

Dane Rudhyar Dane Rudhyar (1895-1985), considered by some to be the greatest astrologer who ever lived, was a tremendous force in the development of humanistic and spiritual astrology in the 60s and 70s, beginning the interface of astrology with psychology that so enriched our field. Rudhyar’s essays and discussions are well worth reading today. Of particular interest in my opinion are his writings about the relationship between the Sun and the Moon. Rudhyar’s book: “Lunation Cycle: Key to the Understanding of Personality” is a classic addition to any astrologer’s library.

Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson An unforgettable force in the field of astrology of a very different nature was Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson (1893-1990). With her professional precision and purity, Goldstein-Jacobson restored the tools and techniques of modern astrology. Perhaps her most famous book is “Simplified Horary Astrology”.

Reinhold Ebertin Reinhold Ebertin (1901-1988), his mother Elsbeth and his son Baldur, have been a major force in both German and international astrology since the beginning of the century. Ebertin’s work with midpoints has been influential in developing an understanding of transits and prediction. His book to read is “Combination of Stellar Influences”.

Isabel Hickey Isabel Hickey (1903-1980) made a lasting impression on our field during the first half of the 20th century as well. Ms. Hickey’s most popular book is called “Astrology: A Cosmic Science”. It was one of the first astrology textbooks to teach a spiritual rather than fatalistic approach to chart interpretation.

The Gauquelins Influential in other ways were two French psychologists Michel (1928-1991) and Francoise Gauquelin. The Gauquelins set out in the 50s to prove whether or not astrology was accurate. Although their results were not amazing, they did establish some correlations in favor of astrological predictability and perhaps more importantly, produced great amounts of statistical data which are still used by astrologers today to develop their theories of prediction.

Linda Goodman Linda Goodman Although often downplayed within the professional astrological community Linda Goodman (1925-1995) was a tremendous popular force in the revival of interest in astrology in the second half of the 20th century. Unsteady in her writing, Goodman’s first books, “Sun Signs” and “Love Signs” were stupendous. Later books wandered far afield. Like many professional astrologers, my first exposure to the field was with these two books. I kept “Love Signs” by my bedside for many years, looking for the perfect Capricorn lover.

Sydney Omarr Sydney Omarr (1926-2003) is mentioned because he is perhaps the best known of his genre, astrologer to the stars! Omarr was an outstanding nationally syndicated columnist during much of the 20th century. He wrote “My World of Astrology”. His annual Sun Sign prediction books are popular sellers every year among his faithful followers.

Lois Rodden Lois Rodden (1928-2003) made a major contribution when she developed a system of rating sources for birth data which revolutionized our field. Believe it or not, prior to this astrologers never cited the source of their birth information! Rodden began a practice of citing sources such as birth certificate, family Bible, hearsay, biography or autobiography, for example, giving a rating to each source as to its accuracy. Because of Rodden, many astrologers now routinely cite the source of their birth date when writing about famous people or historical figures and undoubtedly our field has more credibility because of this.

Two major astrologers working in the 21st century are Rob Hand and Liz Greene. Both are available at www.astro.com.

Rob Hand Rob Hand is an astrologer in Reston, Virginia specializing in a philosophical and classic approach to astrology. Hand has written a number of encyclopedic texts which are a must for your reference library, such as Planets in Transit, Planets in Youth (one of my favorites), Planets in Composite and others. Hand is spearheading a project to translate ancient astrological texts from Latin, Green, Sanskrit and other languages in order to present information about astrology by translators who are sympathetic to its nature. Visit www.projecthindsight.com for more information.

Rob Hand was one of two prominent astrologers (Michael Lutin is another) who predicted 911. I believe that Hand’s ability to do this particular thing is based on the 9th house influence in his astrology chart, his knowledge of history and his development as a philosophical thinker. There is nothing like knowing history (one’s own, another’s or the collective) to enhance one’s abilities to see patterns and make connections for the future.

Liz Greene Liz Greene is a British Jungian analyst/astrologer currently based in Switzerland. Greene brings in-depth Jungian psychological insights to the field of astrology, is a superb and prolific writer and has produced unsurpassed volumes on the nature of the outer planets Saturn, Neptune and Pluto as well as many other books of interest in interpretating astrology. Anything Liz Greene writes is well worth reading.

Martin Schulman Martin Schulman, a contemporary astrologer about whom I have found little biographical information, introduced the concept of karma into astrological interpretation with a series of books on the Moon’s Nodes including “Karmic Astrology: The Moon’s Nodes and Reincarnation” and “Ascendant: Your Karmic Doorway”. Schulman is in a class of his own.

Astrologers are an independent, eclectic, futuristic and dynamic group of people. We welcome all who are interested into our field. Most astrologers are self taught (it is our nature) but you will find small classes available wherever you live if you look carefully! In addition the Kepler College of Arts and Sciences was founded in 2000 in Lynwood, Washington. Kepler College is the only college in the western hemisphere authorized to issue BA degrees in Astrological Studies.
